After more than a decade working as a director in fast fashion brands, I’ve seen how rapid, high-volume manufacturing impacts the environment, workers, and the overall industry. That experience inspired me to create Marqi Studio — a small-batch, slow fashion brand dedicated to designing timeless pieces that prioritize quality and responsibility without falling into overly idealistic labels.
Starting my own brand wasn’t simply a career switch — it was a conscious choice to do better, to prioritize craftsmanship, and to create clothing that lasts. But I quickly learned that embracing small-batch production and responsible design comes with its own set of challenges, especially when balancing costs, quality, and practicality.
Why I Started Marqi Studio
Having spent years immersed in fast fashion, I witnessed firsthand how mass production, quick turnaround times, and low prices can cause real harm—excess waste, poor working conditions, and a culture of disposability. I wanted to do things differently.
With Marqi Studio, I focus on simple, classic styles made in limited quantities. My goal is to offer pieces that stand the test of time — designed to be worn for years, not discarded after a single season. However, this commitment to small-batch craftsmanship and quality doesn’t come without hurdles.

The Reality of Sustainability & Responsibility
While I am committed to responsible practices, I am honest that completely sustainable production—especially on a limited budget—is very difficult. It involves ongoing effort, transparent sourcing, and sometimes compromises. I focus on making the most responsible choices I can within the realm of small-batch craftsmanship, prioritizing quality, durability, and long-term wearability.
It’s important to recognize that responsible fashion is a journey — not an overnight transformation. Being transparent about difficulties and working toward improvement is part of this process.
The Benefits of Small-Scale Production
Choosing small-batch manufacturing lets me create fewer, better pieces—reducing waste and overproduction. It also means I can focus on quality, ensuring each item is crafted with care, which encourages customers to invest in clothing that lasts.
Creating timeless styles that don’t follow fleeting trends helps promote responsible consumption because these pieces can be worn season after season.
Moving Forward: Staying Committed Amid Challenges
My journey with Marqi Studio is ongoing. I believe that building a responsible, thoughtful fashion brand requires honesty, effort, and a real commitment to quality — not quick fixes or overpromising.
I aim to continue refining my processes, making better choices, and producing clothing that balances quality, responsibility, and practicality within my means. Because at the end of the day, responsible fashion isn’t about perfection — it’s about making continuous progress.
